The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that the replacement of an existing stone culvert with Twin 30” Reinforced Concrete Pipes and the installation of new catch basins will be performed on Route 53 (South Street) between Main St./ Memorial Drive and Town Hill Ave in Danbury. This detour is scheduled to occur on Friday, November 1 at 8:00 p.m. and be completed on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 6:00 a.m. The project 0034-0354 consists of the replacement of an existing stone culvert with twin 30” reinforced concrete pipes to carry stormwater beneath Route 53 (South Street). The project also involves new catch basins to be installed to connect the drainage system to further reduce ponding on the roadway. The project work also includes cleaning of the existing pipes and manholes downstream of the culvert for approximately 1,000-feet south to the outlet in Rogers Park, roadway full-depth reconstruction for the pavement surrounding the culvert as well as within the shoulders, the reconstruction of driveways and concrete sidewalk/ ramps on both sides of the road, and roadway mill and overlay for the remainder of the project limits.
CTDOT Project No. 0034-0354 was awarded to PJF Construction Corp. at a cost of $1,228,241.00 on June 10, 2024, and is scheduled to be completed in May 2025. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 4 in Thomaston.

Route 53 (South Street) between Main St./ Memorial Drive and Town Hill Ave will be closed starting Friday, November 1 to Monday, November 4, 2024, from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am. Traffic will be detoured to Town Hill Ave., Liberty Street and Main Street. Traffic control signing patterns and law enforcement as needed will guide motorists through the work zone.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
