The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that a pavement preservation project will be performed on Route 42 in Cheshire, Prospect, Bethany and Route 61 in Woodbury and Bethlehem starting May 6, 2024. As part of the 2024 Pavement Preservation Program, the purpose of this project is to preserve the pavement surface and extend the serviceability of the pavement structure on Routes 42 and 61. Thin Friction Wearing Course (TFWC) is primarily used on rural highways with low traffic volumes that are structurally in good condition with pavement surfaces that are in good or fair-to-good condition.

The work on Route 42 (Cheshire Road, Mountain Road, Bethany Mountain Road) and Route 42 begins at the intersection of Route 63 (Amity Road) and end at South Brooksvale Road in Cheshire.

The work on Route 61 (Bethlehem Road, Main Street South, Main Street North) begins at the intersection of Bellamy Lane/Kasson Road in Bethlehem and ends at the intersection of Route 6 (Main Street North) in Woodbury.

CTDOT Project No. 0170-3705 was awarded to Waters Construction Company Inc. at a cost of $3,236,818.00 on April 15, 2024, and is scheduled to be completed October 18, 2024. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 4 in Thomaston.
