Closure of Southbound Exit 7 (Old Exit 5) on Route 9 Southbound in the Deep River
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that Exit 7 (Old Exit 5) on Route 9 Southbound will be closed for concrete deck end repairs from May 8 to May 19, 2023, during the hours of 6 P.M. to 6 A.M.
The project involves the replacement of bridge joints at approximately 44 bridge locations on Route 9 Northbound and Southbound, ranging from Old Saybrook to Cromwell. The Bridge Joint Replacement Program will proactively replace bridge deck joints to systematically address the Route 9 corridor from Old Saybrook to Cromwell. Replacing the bridge joints proactively will address failing joints to prevent the intrusion of water and snow clearing materials from leaking onto major bridge components. Additionally, the project consists of deck ends repairs if necessary.
DOT Project No. 0105-0216 was awarded to Mohawk Northeast, Inc. at a cost of $4,877,911.60 on December 9, 2022, and is scheduled to be completed November 3, 2023. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.

Exit 7 (Old Exit 5) Closure will take place during the hours of 6 P.M. to 6 A.M., from May 8 to May 19, 2023. Detour signs will be posted, and the detour is as follows.
Southbound traffic will detour past Exit 7 and continue to Exit 5 (old Exit 4). At the end of Exit 5 travelers will take left onto Route 154 north and will then take a left to get back onto Route 9 North. Travelers will then get off Exit 7.
