The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that construction work with nighttime ramp closures at Route 5/15 Northbound Exit 86 to Interstate 91 Southbound will occur periodically from now until October 2022.
The construction work with ramp closure and detour will take place between the hours of 8: p.m. and 6 a.m. and is necessary to complete the construction of the ramp as part of the I-91 Charter Oak Bridge Project.
CTDOT Project number 0063-0703 and 0159-0191 was awarded to O&G / BHD, Joint Venture at a cost of $240 million. Work began on April 1, 2019 and is anticipated to be totally completed by October 18, 2022. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.

Route 5/15 NB Exit 86 on-ramp to I-91 SB closed - the detour route is as follows:
- Follow Route 15 NB detour signs to Exit 87
- Turn Left at end of ramp onto Brainard Road
- Turn Left onto Airport Road
- Turn Left onto entrance ramp for I-91 SB
Motorists are urged to exercise caution when traveling through the construction zone, and to follow the lane shift directions.
