Milling and Paving on Various Intersections on US Route 5 and 15 in Berlin, Newington and Wethersfield

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that milling and paving of various intersections which will include lane closures and alternating one way traffic patterns is scheduled to start July 31, 2022, weather dependent. The work is a part of the replacement and upgrades to the coordinated traffic signal system in District 1.

The project consists of replacing and upgrading the coordinated traffic signal system (CTSS) equipment and the associated items such as trenching, backfilling, new conduits, new mast arms, video detection, new fiber optic cable, and hand holes to complete the new installations.  Also, pedestrian modifications such as new sidewalk ramps and pedestrian push buttons, are included in the project.

Work will be performed in Berlin, Newington, and Wethersfield at the following locations:

Berlin

  • Int. 007-209 U.S. Route 5 & 15 (Wilbur Cross Parkway) at Selden Street and Rowley Street

Newington

  • Int. 093-224 U.S. Route 5 & 15 (Berlin Turnpike) at Webster Street and Modern Tire
  • Int. 093-227 U.S. Route 5 & 15 (Berlin Turnpike) at Pane Road and PC Richards Driveway
  • Int. 093-255 U.S. Route 5 & 15 (Berlin Turnpike) at Lowes and Target Driveways
  • Int. 093-201 U.S. Route 5 & 15 (Berlin Turnpike) at Route 172 (Richard Street) and Deming Road
  • Int. 093-245 U.S. Route 5 & 15 (Berlin Turnpike) at Pascone Place
  • Int. 093-229 U.S. Route 5 & 15 (Berlin Turnpike) at Route 176 (Main Street) and Griswoldville

Wethersfield

  • Int. 159-210 U.S. Route 5 & 15 (Berlin Turnpike) at Arrow Road and Pent Road
  • Int. 159-258 U.S. Route 5 & 15 (Berlin Turnpike) at Pawtucket Ave.
  • Int. 159-249 U.S. Route 5 & 15 (Berlin Turnpike) Southbound at Route 315
  • Int. 159-228 U.S. Route 5 & 15 (Berlin Turnpike) at Nott Street

DOT Project No. 0007-0250 was awarded to Ducci Electrical Contractors, Inc. at a cost of $9,944,143.66 on June 14, 2021 and is scheduled to be completed by May 29, 2023. The project is being administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction District 1, Rocky Hill.

LANE CLOSURE INFO:

Lane closures on Route 5 and 15 (Berlin Turnpike), ramps, turning roadways and all other roadways included in the project may occur Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m.
