Installation of Overhead Utilities Exit 8 on I84 in Newtown

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the installation of overhead utilities over I-84 in the vicinity of Exit 8 in Newtown.

The project consists of the installation of overhead fiber-optic cables over I-84 Eastbound and Westbound in the vicinity of Exit 8 in the Town of Newtown. Work will involve lane closures, slowdowns, and possible stoppages of up to 10 minutes at a time between the hours 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

DOT Project No. 0034-0347 was awarded to Empire Paving at a cost of $9,189,529.05 on January 22, 2020 and is scheduled to be completed by the spring of 2022.  The work is being administered by District 4 Construction in Thomaston.

 

LANE CLOSURE INFO

Motorists can expect delays and possible stoppages of up to 10 minutes at a time. Traffic impacts are expected to occur on the evening of January 13, 2022, between the hours 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.  Should this work be cancelled due to inclement weather, work will be performed on January 20, 2022, between the hours 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. 

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.  Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
