Beginning the week of January 3, 2022, the Exit 4 EB on-ramp will be closed for one night and the Exit 5 WB on-ramp will be closed for two nights between the hours of 7 p.m., and 6 a.m., and signed detours will be in place. The on ramps will be open and operational during peak traffic hours.
Work on the project will be completed from 7 p,m., to 6 a.m. One or two lanes along I-691 will be closed to traffic while nighttime work is underway. All lanes will be reopened and operational during peak traffic hours. All work is weather dependent.
The project consists of resurfacing, bridge rehabilitations, safety improvements, signing upgrades and illumination replacement. Preliminary work will include pavement coring/sampling and drainage structure inspections.
DOT Project No. 0079-0244 was awarded to Manafort Brothers, Inc. at a cost of $48,865,177.75 on December 30, 2020. Construction began in September 2021 and is scheduled to be completed in October 2023. This project is administered by the Office of Construction District 4 in Thomaston.
LANE CLOSURE and DETOUR INFO
I-691 EB Exit 4 ON-RAMP:
Beginning on or about January 3rd, 2022, the Exit 4 EB on-ramp will be closed. There will be a signed detour in place. The detour will guide motorists to take West Main Street to I-691 WB, then take Exit 3 to Highland Avenue to I-691 EB.
I-691 WB Exit 5 ON-RAMP:
Beginning on or about January 4th and 5th, 2022, the Exit 5 WB on-ramp will be closed. There will be a signed detour in place. The detour will guide motorists to take Chamberlain Highway to Kensington Avenue to Colony Street to I-691 WB.
These ramps closures will not take place during the same night.
