CTDOT Develops Plans for Installations and Revisions of Traffic Control Signals in Various Connecticut Towns

Traffic control signal equipment to be brought to CTDOT standards at 14 locations in East Granby, Farmington, Harwinton, Prospect, Seymour, Simsbury, Thomaston, and Torrington.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to 
upgrade existing traffic control signal equipment or install new traffic control signal equipment to meet current CTDOT standards at 14 locations in the cities and/or towns of East Granby, Farmington, Harwinton, Prospect, Seymour, Simsbury, Thomaston, and TorringtonAt applicable locations, pedestrian control features (countdown pedestrian indications, accessible pushbuttons, sidewalk ramps) will be upgraded in an effort to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety. The CTDOT will coordinate with the City/Town during the design phase. 

The intersections below consist of new signal equipment being installed at existing signalized locations:

  • East Granby – Route 20 (Rainbow Rd.) at Kripes Rd. – Int.#039-211

  • East Granby – Route 20 (Rainbow Rd.) at Hazelwood Rd. – Int. #039-212

  • Farmington – I-84 Eastbound Ramps at Fienemann Rd. and Batterson Park Rd. #1 – Int. #051-223

  • Prospect – Route 68 (Union City Rd.) at Straitsville Rd. and Old Schoolhouse Rd. – Int.#114-205

  • Prospect – Route 69 (Waterbury Rd.) at Scott Rd. – Int. #114-206

  • Seymour – Route 67 (New Haven Rd.) at S.R. 721 (North St.) and North St. – Int. #124-209

  • Seymour – Route 67 (New Haven Rd.) at Skokorat Rd. and Beach St. – Int. #124-221

  • Seymour – Route 67 (New Haven Rd.) at Route 8 Southbound Off Ramp #49A (Easterly) – Int. #124-223

  • Simsbury – Route 10/U.S. Route 202 (Hopmeadow St.) at Route 315 (Tariffville Rd.) – Int. #128-237

  • Thomaston – Route 222 (East Main St.) at Route 8 Southbound Ramps – Int.#140-211

  • Torrington – Route 4 (Migeon Ave. & North Elm St.) at Migeon Ave. – Int.#143-242


The intersection below consists of new signal equipment being installed at an existing unsignalized location:

  • Harwinton – Route 4 (Burlington Rd.) at Route 72 (Terryville Rd.) and Woodchuck Lane– Int. #065-2

The intersections below consist of revisions to the existing signal equipment:

  • East Granby – Route 20 (Rainbow Rd.) at International Dr. and Bradley Park Rd. – Int.#039-202

  • Simsbury – Route 10/U.S. Route 202 (Hopmeadow St.) at Hoskins Rd. – Int.#128-245

It is CTDOT policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development. At this time, it is anticipated that an informational meeting or formal public hearing will not be necessary. 

The design plans for this project are expected to be completed in February 2023 with a tentative advertising date of April 2023.
