The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is pleased to announce several improvements to the traffic alignment at the Charter Oak Bridge project.  These improvements will further reduce congestion and delays on I-91 Northbound and Route 5/15 Northbound in Hartford and East Hartford.

The left lane of Route 5/15 northbound at Exit 89 will reopen by November 24 – prior to Thanksgiving Day. This lane, approaching the Charter Oak Bridge, was previously closed in September 2021, for construction operations.

In addition, on December 20, 2021, a new lane will open on Route 5/15 Northbound that will span over the Charter Oak Bridge into East Hartford by Exit 90 and 91.

As a result of these improvements to the traffic alignment, travel delays through the project will be reduced during peak travel times. Work will continue throughout the project with nighttime lane closures and detours posted on our project website and via weekly email announcements. The project is currently anticipated to be completed by October 18, 2022.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

Intermittent lane closures will occur on I-91, Route 5/15, associated ramps and turning roadways, Airport Road (Hartford), Reserve Road (Hartford), Main Street (East Hartford), and Silver Lane (East Hartford) during off-peak hours and weekends.

More information about the project, including weekly lane closures, and closures and detours may be found on our website.
