Third Thursday Presentation Dave Corrigan
Dave Corrigan, Curator of the Museum of Connecticut History presented an insight into the Goodwin Brothers Pottery in West Hartford 1870-1929.
The southeastern part of West Hartford sits atop a huge clay deposit. From the 18th through the 20th centuries, enterprising residents turned clay into a wide variety of products—including utilitarian red ware pieces, art pottery and bricks. The Goodwin family is most notably associated with pottery manufacture in West Hartford. This lecture will focus on the Goodwin Brothers Pottery that produced a variety of pottery, in a large factory on New Britain Avenue that employed 75 people in the early 1900s. This made it one of the earliest of West Hartford’s industrial concerns. The full presentation can be viewed below:
About the Presenter: Dave Corrigan has a B.A. in History and Philosophy from Southern Connecticut State University and a M.A. in Philosophy from Georgetown University. He worked as the Assistant Curator at the New Haven Colony Historical Society, Exhibit Specialist at the Mystic Seaport Museum, and Curator of the Worcestor (MA) Historical Society prior to becoming Museum Curator of the Museum of Connecticut History at the Connecticut State Library.
