Replacement and Relocation of Electronic Highway Signs on I-95 and Route 7 in Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk and Westport

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of work activity to replace and relocate electronic highway signs (known at VMS or Variable Message Signs) on I-95 and Route 7 in Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk and Westport.

The purpose of the project is to replace, upgrade, and relocate the existing VMS which were originally installed between 1992 and 1994 as part of the CTDOT’s Incident Management System. The replacement installations will be located in the same vicinity as the existing signs and will utilize overhead cantilever truss structures.

The contractor will be allowed to work on I-95 and Route 7 during the following hours: Route I-95 NB & SB (Greenwich to Westport) Monday - Thursday: 9 pm to 5 am. Friday: 11 pm to 5 am Saturday: 12 midnight to 6 am. Sunday: 11 pm to 7 am Route 7 SB (Norwalk) Monday - Friday: 9 am to 2 pm & 6 pm to 6 am. Saturday-Sunday: All Day. Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.

Project No. 0173-0496 was awarded to A.M. Rizzo Electric Contractors, Inc. of Danbury, CT on December 1, 2020, at a cost of $4,395,798.00 and is scheduled for completion in January 13, 2022.
