"DJ Joe" Awardee of the IDPAC Innovative Employment Outcome Pilot

The Department of Developmental Services and the Intellectual Disability Partnership Advisory Council recently announced the 21 awardees selected to participate in the Intellectual Disability Partnership Innovative Employment Outcomes Pilot. Interested entities were asked to submit business plans for an innovative or alternative business model that employs or encourages the employment of individuals with intellectual disability. The pilot program focuses on providing support and resources to ensure the success of new business ventures that integrate individuals with intellectual disability. The department hopes these business models will also provide a framework for other entities interested in similar work.
One of the awardees selected for the pilot is Joey Agostino. As a musician, light and sound technician and stage manager, Joey was interested in using his talents to start an entertainment business called “DJ Joe”. Along with providing services to local birthdays, celebrations, corporate events, schools and local music venues; Joey has also gathered much support from foundations and organizations that support people with intellectual, developmental and mobility challenges. It is Joey’s hope that with his musical knowledge, skillful performance, commanding personality and upbeat energy, that he can leverage his disability to rise above all expectations and carry a message of independence, confidence, compassion and inclusion to all of his audiences and become an inspiration to others.
