About Self Direction (hiring and managing your own staff)

Self Direction means the individual hires and manages personnel to provide specific services, goods or equipment. This includes staff who are hired directly by the family or consumer and the use of an Agency with Choice. Self direction is a consumer / family chosen service delivery approach that can facilitate putting self determination principles into action. Self direction also includes person-centered planning, choice of services, individual budgets, and supports networks including a fiscal intermediary and case management or support broker services.
