Connecticut's Assistive Technology Innovation Conference Declared a Resounding Success

(Rocky Hill, CT) – The Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is thrilled to announce the outstanding success of the Assistive Technology Innovation Conference held yesterday June 22nd. The sold-out event aimed to enhance awareness, understanding, access, and acquisition of Assistive Technology devices and services in Connecticut.

The conference provided a platform for individuals and their family members, DDS staff members and case managers, service providers, and technology experts to come together and explore the latest advancements in Assistive Technology. With a wide range of sessions covering topics such as Assistive Technology for Employment, Accessibility Features for Smartphones and Tablets, and Initiatives for Accessing Assistive Technology, participants gained valuable insights and practical knowledge.

“Connecticut's first Assistive Technology Innovation Conference was an exceptional gathering that showcased the power of technology in improving the lives of individuals with an intellectual disability.” DDS Commissioner Jordan A. Scheff said. “The conference successfully fostered awareness, encouraged collaboration, and highlighted the incredible potential of Assistive Technology to promote independence and inclusion."

The conference featured an Assistive Technology (AT) Expo Hall with exhibitors, vendors, and manufacturers offering participants hands-on experiences with a wide range of Assistive Technology devices. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with service providers, participate in AT demos, and explore the Smart Home on Wheels (the SHOW), which showcased cutting-edge smart home technology. The event's schedule was packed with engaging sessions, including a keynote speech from Harold Sloves, a renowned innovation consultant for intellectual and developmental disabilities services, systems, and networks, breakout sessions covering various aspects of Assistive Technology, and informative AT demonstrations.

Connecticut’s Assistive Technology Innovation Conference is a successful collaboration between the Developmental Disabilities Council, the Department of Developmental Services, and the CT Tech Act Project.

DDS remains committed to promoting accessibility and inclusivity in Connecticut, leveraging the power of innovation and technology to break down barriers and create equal opportunities for all individuals with intellectual disability.
