DDS Norwich Area Parents Group held its annual Holiday Party in the Uncas Library
Each year the DDS Norwich Area Parent’s Group holds an annual Holiday Party for Parents supported by the Department and their children to celebrate the holidays. This was the 7th year of the event and with snowy conditions in the morning, many were worried that the party would have to be cancelled, but the sun came out and made the celebration possible, with the best turnout to date!
Ten parents and many of their children, family members and support staff were in attendance. Santa and Mrs. Claus made a delightful visit and brought joy to all. Over 40 people including staff from DDS, ARC of Eastern CT, Guide Inc, Ascension Home Support Services and private hire staff helped to support this group and make this event a success!
It was a pleasure to see both parents and children enjoying themselves and connecting with one another. A highlight of the evening included an emotional and heartfelt speech given by parent Daniel Roberts (picture below), who was asked by Santa what he wanted for Christmas. Dan gathered his two daughters close and told the group that he didn’t want anything for Christmas because he had everything he needed in his daughters. He hugged and kissed them both and told them he loved them, and there were few dry eyes in the room after that!
Families were asked to bring a dish to share and the food was plentiful and delicious. It was a joyous celebration of families and a great time was had by all!
