2015 – 2016 Partners in Policymaking Class
Partners in Policymaking is a nationally recognized program to train leaders who are people with disabilities or parents of children with disabilities. It is being used in over 30 states. This seven-part training program is sponsored by the CT Developmental Disabilities Network (the CT Council on Developmental Disabilities, the Office of Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities, and the University of CT Center on Disabilities).
Participants will learn about the history of the disability movement, state and national policies affecting persons with disabilities, accessing health care, special education, assistive technology, effective advocacy strategies, adult services, effective communication, strategies to run a meeting and the legislative process. Each participant will complete a project on a disability issue as a requirement of this training.
