  1. How do I remove a Line of Authority (LOA) from my license?

To remove a Line of Authority (LOA) from your license, please submit the LOA Removal Request form.

  2. I applied for the wrong type of license (Fraternal Agent instead of Insurance Producer), What should I do?

If your Fraternal Agent license has already been issued, please note:
    • No refunds will be provided.
    • The Department cannot switch the license type or apply the fees paid toward another license.
    • To cancel the Fraternal Agent license, you must complete and submit a Voluntary Surrender Request form.

If you intend to apply for an Insurance Producer license:
    • You must first take and pass the appropriate Producer exam.
    • Then, apply for the correct license through NIPR.

If you do not see the Producer license category when applying:
    • Wait 1–2 days for your passed exam results to upload to the national database.
    • Verify that your personal information was entered correctly during the exam or application process.
    • If you notice any discrepancies or continue to have issues, please email cid.licensing@ct.gov for assistance.

  3. I applied for the Variable Life/Variable Annuity Line of Authority (LOA), but it's not showing on my license. Why not?

To hold the Variable Life/Variable Annuity LOA in Connecticut, you must be actively registered with a broker-dealer. Please note that registration as an Investment Advisor does not meet this requirement. If you are not currently registered with FINRA, your application for this LOA will not be processed.

    Next steps:
    • Contact your broker-dealer to complete the FINRA registration process.
    • Once registered, amend your license through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) to add the LOA.
    • An amendment fee will be required at the time of submission.

  4. Who can authorize a Connecticut Fraternal Agent license application?

Before a Fraternal Agent license can be issued, the Connecticut Insurance Department must receive:
    • A completed license application submitted by the applicant, including the required filing fee; and
    • A completed Fraternal Agent Supplemental Form certifying that:
      • The Fraternal Benefit Society has determined the applicant is trustworthy and competent to act as a fraternal agent; and
      • The society will appoint the applicant if the license is issued.

The supplemental form must be executed and acknowledged by an officer or managing agent of the Fraternal Benefit Society, in accordance with Connecticut statute.

  5. Can a Fraternal Benefit Society have more than one authorized licensing representative?

Yes. A Fraternal Benefit Society may have more than one authorized licensing representative.

    These individuals:
    • Do not need to be separately registered with the Department; however,
    • Must hold a Fraternal Agent license, and
    • Must be authorized to act on behalf of the society by an officer or managing agent of the Fraternal Benefit Society.
