A dispensary technician will count toward the 1:3 pharmacist-dispensary technician ratio when the dispensary technician is performing routine cannabis dispensing functions specific to the dispensary technician credential.

The department has developed guidance for the practice of remote pharmacy in the dispensing of cannabis, which addresses sufficient supervision practices.

What is “direct supervision” of a dispensary technician by a pharmacist?
"Direct supervision" means a supervising licensed pharmacist who (A) is physically or virtually present in the area or location where the dispensary technician is performing routine cannabis dispensing functions; and (B) conducts in-process and final checks on the dispensary technician's performance.

When must a pharmacist directly supervise a dispensary technician?
A licensed pharmacist must supervise a dispensary technician when the dispensary technician is performing routine cannabis dispensing functions. When supervising a dispensary technician in the dispensary technician training program, eight of those training program hours must include the licensed pharmacist conducting in-person supervision.

There is a total of 25 hours required for training.

Is an individual required to be a registered employee and a registered dispensary technician at the same time?
If the individual is registered as a dispensary technician, and has completed the required training, then an additional employee credential will not be required.

The dispensary technician registration fee is due as a part of the application for registration, before the dispensary technician begins the training program.
