• Farmland Preservation Overview

  Agriculture is one of Connecticut's most vital economic sectors, and at its heart is the state's extraordinary farmland. The Department of Agriculture preserves working lands by acquiring development rights to agricultural properties through two programs, ensuring that the land remains available only for agricultural use in perpetuity: the Farmland Preservation Program (FPP) and the Community Farms Preservation Program.

• Farm Transition Grant (FTG)

  The Farm Transition Grant Program (FTG) (C.G.S. Sec. 22-26k) is a competitive matching grant program for Connecticut farmers and agricultural cooperatives to support the diversification of existing farm operations, transitioning to value-added agricultural production and sales, and other venues in which a majority of products sold are grown in the state.

• Specialty Crop Block Grant

  Geared towards specialty crops, this grant supports projects that enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of crops such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and horticultural products.
