Insert an Internal Sitecore Hyperlink

You can add a link to another page, file, or topic inside your Sitecore website by using either:

  • The Rich Text Editor, or

  • A simple text field with a link tool.

Note: select Lock and Edit to check out and edit the page.

Rich Text Editor
  1. Highlight the text you want to hyperlink

  2. Click the Insert Sitecore Link icon Insert Internal Link icon.
  3. In the Insert Link box, use the content tree to find your page (or choose the media tab if linking to an image or file in the media library).

  4. Click Insert.
  5. Click Accept at the bottom of the Rich Text Editor box.
  6. Save Save icon your changes.
  7. Select the Unlock Unlock icon icon to check in your page if you are done editing.

To change the hyperlink, follow the same steps.

Alternatively, add an Internal Link from a Text Field
  • Click inside the field and highlight the text you want to hyperlink.
  • A toolbar will appear. Click the Link icon Insert Sitecore Link icon

Follow the same steps covered above, starting with step 2.
NOTE: to remove the hyperlink you will need to use the rich text editor. 

Remove an Internal Hyperlink (Rich Text Editor Only)

To remove the hyperlink, follow these steps.

  1. Highlight the hyperlinked text you want to remove the hyperlink from.
  2. Click the Remove Link icon Remove Link icon.
  3. Click Accept.
  4. Save Save icon your changes.
  5. Select the Unlock Unlock icon icon to check in your page if you are done editing.
Insert External Hyperlink

Links to a page outside Sitecore, like another website

You must use the Rich Text Editor to add external links.

  1.  Highlight the text you want to hyperlink.

  2. Click the Hyperlink Manager icon Hyperlink Manager icon.

  3. Fill out the following fields:
    • URL - Enter the full website address (example: http://www.google.com)
    • Link Text - Populated with highlighted text
    • Target - Same Window
    • Leave the other fields blank.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Accept.
  6. Save Save icon your changes.
  7. Click the Unlock Unlock icon icon to check in your page if you are done editing.

To change the hyperlink, follow the same steps.

✅ Reminder: Check external links often to make sure they still work.

Remove External Hyperlink
  1. Highlight the hyperlinked text you want to remove the hyperlink from.
  2. Click the Remove Link icon Remove Link icon and the hyperlink will be removed from the text.
  3. Click Accept.
  4. Save Save icon your changes.
  5. Select the Unlock Unlock icon icon to check in your page if you are done editing.

✅ Best Practices

  • Only link to pages that exist
  • Use clear, descriptive link text like “How to Publish in Sitecore” instead of vague phrases like “click here.”
  • Use internal links when possible—they're safer and update automatically
