Usage
Use the Rich Text component when you need to add:
- Paragraphs that explain services, processes, or policies
- Short introductions or connector text between components
- Lists (bulleted or numbered) for steps, instructions, or grouped information
Rich Text is ideal for simple, readable content that does not require a visual container or specialized layout.
What this component is not for
Avoid using the Rich Text component for:
- Images or graphics. Use the Image, Tile, or Video components
- Links or navigation.
- Layout or spacing
- Decorative text or styled callouts.
- Headings that structure the entire page. Use component titles instead
- Embedding code, scripts, or custom HTML
How to structure text in Rich Text
Follow CT.gov heading and formatting standards:
- Do not create an H1 in Rich Text. The page title is the only H1
- Keep paragraphs short and scannable
- Use bulleted or numbered lists for steps or grouped information
- Avoid manually styling text with colors, fonts, or inline HTML
- Paste content as plain text to remove hidden formatting from Word or email
Best practices
- Write clearly and concisely. Break up long text into short paragraphs
- Support accessibility standards
- Use meaningful, descriptive text
- Do not rely on color alone for emphasis
- Ensure text is readable at all zoom levels
- Keep formatting consistent. Use the built-in Rich Text editor formatting options instead of custom HTML or CSS
- Use Rich Text to support, not replace, page structure. Let components handle layout, navigation, and visual hierarchy
