The Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB) program is one of the Medicare Savings Programs (MSP) that helps you pay for your Medicare Part B premiums.

Unlike other programs, SLMB only pays for the Medicare Part B premium.

SLMB recipients are automatically enrolled in the low-income subsidy (LIS), also called “extra help.” The LIS or extra help pays for one of the following:

  • The full cost of a Medicare Part D (prescription coverage) benchmark plan
  • A portion of a non-benchmark plan, yearly deductibles, and either co-insurance or copays.
  • This benefit also allows you to change your Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage plans outside of the open enrollment period.

Who is eligible?

  • You must have Medicare Part A to qualify.
  • You must live in Connecticut.

 
Income limits: 

Income limits for 2025 (these may change from year to year)
Individual monthly: $3,013
Married monthly: $4,072


Asset limit:

Connecticut does not have an asset limit for Medicare Savings Programs.
