Program Overview

HUSKY B, or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), provides free or low-cost health coverage for uninsured children up to age 19 and pregnant individuals who don't qualify for Medicaid due to immigration status.

HUSKY B helps families afford medical care. Connecticut children in families who meet income requirements may qualify for HUSKY B. The HUSKY B plan provides health coverage for eligible members, including:
Medical
Dental
Vision
Prescription drugs

Although some cost sharing may apply, families with children in HUSKY B should not pay more than 5% of their gross income on insurance premiums, co-payments, or co-insurance during their eligibility year.

HUSKY B-Prenatal Care provides health care to pregnant non-citizens who don't qualify for Medicaid due to immigration status. There is no age requirement for this coverage or applicable premiums.


Who is eligible?

Uninsured Connecticut children under age 19 who are not eligible for HUSKY A due to income may be eligible for HUSKY B. Pregnant individuals who do not qualify for Medicaid due to immigration status may also qualify.

Children eligible for HUSKY B are enrolled in one of two groups:

Band 1: For uninsured children under 19 years old with income up to 254% of the federal poverty level. There is no monthly premium, but some copays may apply.
Band 2: Similar to Band 1, but for uninsured children in families with a greater income within 323% of the federal poverty level. Monthly premiums apply, typically:
o $30 for one child
o $50 for multiple children

Income Limits

Connecticut children and families with income between 202% - 323% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) may qualify for HUSKY B.
Income must fall within these levels:
Annual income
Monthly income
