What is H.R.1?

A federal law known officially as H.R. 1. in Congress, is also known as The One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
  • H.R. means the bill started in the U.S. House of Representatives.
  • 1 means it was the first bill introduced during that session.

How the Law Was Passed
Congress used a process called budget reconciliation to pass this law. Budget reconciliation is used to:
  • Make changes to federal programs
  • Adjust how much money those programs receive
  • Move budget related laws through Congress more quickly

What programs are affected?

The new law changes some public benefit programs that DSS oversees, including:

  • SNAP (helps people buy food)
  • HUSKY Health (health care for people in Connecticut)

These changes may affect how people get benefits, who can qualify, or how the programs are funded.

If you receive SNAP or HUSKY and the law affects your benefits:

  • DSS will send you a notice
  • Notices will include next steps, dates, and anything you need to do

You do not need to act until you receive information directly from DSS.
