File a Debt Negotiator Complaint

 

The Department of Banking licenses Debt Negotiators.  These companies negotiate the terms of a consumer obligation to a mortgagee/creditor on the consumer’s behalf to reduce outstanding debt. Debt Negotiators charge a fee for their service. The DOB accepts complaints against licensed and unlicensed Debt Negotiators.

How do I submit a complaint?

The Department of Banking licenses Debt Negotiators. .

  1. Determine if the debt negotiator you are working with is licensed by the DOB.  See debt negotiators licensed in Connecticut. If yes, see Step 2. If no, see Step 4.
  2. Attempt to resolve the dispute by contacting the debt negotiator to resolve your dispute.
  3. If you cannot resolve the dispute with the debt negotiator you have been working with:
      - File a complaint with the Department of Banking.  See form link below.
  4. If the debt negotiator you are working with is not licensed in Connecticut:
    • You may be working with a foreclosure rescue company or law firm in CT or out-of-state law firm with an attorney(s) not admitted to practice law in CT. The DOB accepts complaints against unlicensed companies who act as debt negotiators with CT residents.
