Service of Process Update – Effective September 8, 2026

Beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the Connecticut Insurance Department will resume full operations at its new office at 280 Trumbull Street. The Department's prior policy and practice for Service of Process will be reinstated.

Days: Monday through Friday
Hours: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Location: 280 Trumbull Street, 7th Floor, Hartford, CT 06103

The Service of Process procedure is as follows:

  1. Upon arrival at 280 Trumbull Street, state marshals must sign in at the Security Desk in the lobby.
  2. Building Security will process visitors according to its standard external visitor policy and direct state marshals to the Connecticut Insurance Department on the 7th Floor.
  3. If needed, the wall-mounted telecom system in the 7th Floor Elevator Lobby may be used to contact the Department's Front Desk Receptionist and gain entry to the 7th Floor Reception Area.
  4. The Connecticut Insurance Department will accept Service of Process at the reception window on the 7th Floor.
  5. Upon departure, state marshals should sign out with 280 Trumbull Street Building Security, as appropriate.

Update: Credit Card Payments Now Accepted for Service of Process

The Connecticut Insurance Department now accepts credit card payments for service of process fees. You can use Visa, MasterCard and Discover for payments. American Express is not accepted. Additionally, payments can be made using Apple Pay or Google Pay connected to a valid card type.
