CONNECTICUT INSURANCE DEPARTMENT EXAMINERS COMPLETE INTERNATIONAL REGULATORY AND SUPERVISORY TRAINING

HARTFORD, CT – Connecticut Insurance Department (CID) Commissioner Andrew N. Mais announced that Michael Estabrook, Insurance Certified Financial Examiner, and Wayne Shepherd, Insurance Certified Supervising Examiner, have successfully completed the Financial Stability Institute (FSI) of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) Regulatory and Supervisory Training course.
The FSI-IAIS Regulatory and Supervisory Training course is an 80-hour program covering key areas of insurance oversight, including prudential supervision, risk management, corporate governance, and conduct of business. The training also focuses on supervisory tools and practices used by regulators around the world.
“The completion of this program reflects the dedication and professionalism that define this Department”, said Commissioner Mais. “I congratulate Michael and Wayne for their achievement and commend their commitment to continuous learning and advancing effective regulation that strengthens consumer protection and market stability here in Connecticut.”
“The training provided an in-depth look at the Insurance Core Principles which serve as a globally recognized framework for insurance regulation and supervision,” said Michael Estabrook. “I appreciated the opportunity to participate. It deepened my understanding of shared regulatory priorities and highlighted best practices from jurisdictions around the world.”
“My participation in the training provided valuable insight into the diverse supervisory and regulatory frameworks used by regulators worldwide, “said Wayne Shepherd. “I found this course to be highly relevant especially in the oversight of capital adequacy, corporate governance, supervisory tools and techniques and conduct of business. The knowledge gained will be instrumental in enhancing the effectiveness and consistency of our examinations of domestic insurance carriers.”
