CONNECTICUT INSURANCE DEPARTMENT HELPS LIFE INSURANCE CONSUMERS
FIND MORE THAN $25 MILLION IN BENEFITS
Online Tool Helps Families Find Old Life Insurance Policies
Insurance Commissioner Andrew N. Mais announced that in 2022, CID has helped consumers find a total policy face amount of more than $25 million from lost or unclaimed life insurance policies, using the free online Life Insurance Policy Locator.
“Experiencing the loss of a loved one is already a sorrowful and stressful time, and the additional task of searching for a missing life insurance policy only adds to that burden,” Commissioner Mais said. “If you believe that you are the beneficiary of a missing life insurance policy, I encourage you to use the Locator tool to get the compensation you rightfully deserve.”
Developed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the locator tool helps to connect consumers with their deceased loved ones’ lost life insurance policies and annuity contracts.
Consumer requests to find a lost policy are encrypted and secured to maintain confidentiality. Participating insurers will compare submitted requests with available policyholder information and report all matches to state insurance departments through the locator. Companies will then contact beneficiaries or their authorized representatives within 90 days.
If you have questions about the Locator tool or need assistance with a lost life insurance policy, please visit CID’s Consumer Affairs webpage.
