P.A. 187, Travel – Limited Lines
(Individual & Business Entity)

The Act defines "designated travel retailers" as business entities that arrange or offer travel services and are designated by a duly licensed limited lines insurance producer to offer and disseminate travel insurance to residents of Connecticut on such producer's behalf.

Business Entities: Two (2) years – Expires January 31st every EVEN year.

Individual: Two (2) years – Expires the last day of the birth month every other year.

A Designated Responsible Licensed Person (DRLP) is a licensed individual designated by a business entity to be responsible for the entity’s insurance license and regulatory compliance.

DRLP Required: YES

Business entities applying for or holding a P.A. 187 Travel – Limited Lines license must designate at least one DRLP.

The DRLP must:

  • Hold an active Connecticut insurance license (resident or non-resident)
  • Hold a license type that corresponds to the business entity’s license
  • Be listed in the NIPR application/record for the business entity

There is no limit to the number of DRLPs a business entity may designate.

Important Travel Limited Lines Rule

Business entities applying for or holding a P.A. 187 Travel – Limited Lines license, the DRLP must hold one of the following:

  • A P.A. 187 Travel – Limited Lines license
  • A standard lines Producer license (Property & Casualty, Life, Accident & Health or Sickness, or Personal Lines)
  • A Travel Limited Lines license

An individual who holds only Credit and/or Crop limited lines authority cannot serve as the DRLP for a P.A. 187 Travel business entity.

Renewal notices are EMAILED approximately 90 days before the expiration date.

Within one (1) year after the expiration date:

A late fee of $650.00 is required, for a total fee of $1,300.00.

After one (1) year:

A new reinstatement application is required with a $750.00 fee.
