Fraternal Agent (Individual ONLY)

OVERVIEW

A Fraternal Agent is licensed to solicit, negotiate, or sell Life or Accident & Health insurance, or annuities, on behalf of a Fraternal Society. An appointment by the Fraternal Society is required.

Definitions

  • Fraternal Insurance: Insurance provided by social organizations for their members.
  • Fraternal Society: A social organization that provides insurance benefits to its members.
  • Fraternal Life Insurance: Life insurance offered by fraternal orders or societies.

No pro-rating, non-refundable $50.00 application fee.

Two (2) years – Renews December 31st every ODD year.

Residents & Non-Residents:

No pre-licensing course or examination is required for this license type.

Follow these steps in order:

  • Once the license is issued, the Fraternal Company may submit the appointment through NIPR.

  • Important Notice

    Do NOT select the Fraternal Agent license category if you recently tested for a Life and/or Accident & Health Insurance Producer license.
    Fraternal Agent and Insurance Producer are different license types. License fees are non-refundable if the incorrect license type is selected.
    Please allow 1–2 business days for Producer exam results to upload to the national database before applying for a Producer license.

Renewals are processed through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR)

Renewal notices are emailed about 90 days before your expiration date.

If you already hold an Insurance Producer license, do not select the Fraternal Agent license category when renewing. Refunds are not available for incorrect submissions.

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Submit Amendment Through NIPR

  • The Fraternal Society must submit the amendment application through NIPR.

Step 2: Submit Supplemental Form

Step 3: Appointment Submission

  • After approval, the Fraternal Company may submit the appointment through NIPR.

Reinstatements are completed through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).

After December 31st of each ODD-numbered year:

Step 1: The Fraternal Society submits the reinstatement application through NIPR.

Step 2: Submit the Fraternal Agent Supplemental Form via email to cid.licensing@ct.gov, or the NIPR Attachment Warehouse.

Step 3: Once the license is issued, the Fraternal Company submits the appointment through NIPR.

Please be reminded that it is your responsibility to keep your contact information current. Failure to receive renewal notices or other important correspondence due to outdated contact information does not excuse you from meeting renewal deadlines or other regulatory requirements. Ensure that your address, phone number, and email are up-to-date to avoid any disruptions in your licensing status.

To terminate an appointment:

The Fraternal Company must submit the termination through National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).

To cancel the license voluntarily:

Submit a Voluntary Surrender License Request

  • Connecticut does not license fraternal business entities.
  • Only one Fraternal Agent license is required.
  • Fraternal Companies add appointments through NIPR.
  • This license type does not require fingerprinting.
