Casualty Adjuster: Property & Casualty Claims (Individual & Business Entity)
Definition
ADJUSTER – A person who investigates, negotiates and settles losses for an insurance carrier. They must establish the how, when, where and why during the investigation of the insured's claim. They represent the insurance company and acting for the company in working on agreements as to the amount of a loss and the liability of the company in same. They must establish the worth and value of the claim in the evaluation and, ultimately, they must authorize payment, negotiate an agreement or reject the claim.
CASUALTY ADJUSTER – Casualty Adjuster means any person who or which acts as an adjuster of insurance claims, other than life, accident and health, and fire and extended in the general practice of law are exempted.

Duration
Two (2) years
Individual: Birth month – every OTHER year
Business Entity: June 30th – every ODD year
How to Apply
Residents:
- No pre-licensing course is required before taking the Adjuster exam. (Study Material)

- After passing the exam, apply at the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).
Non-Residents:
- Connecticut is reciprocal with all states, including DHS.
- Apply at National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).
Non-Residents claiming DHS:
- Connecticut issues Non-Resident DHS status to an individual who resides in a state with no Adjuster licensing
- After passing the exam, apply at the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).
Designated Responsible Licensed Person (DRLP)
A Designated Responsible Licensed Person (DRLP) is a licensed individual designated by a business entity to be responsible for the entity’s insurance license and regulatory compliance.
For license types issued to business entities, a DRLP ensures there is a properly licensed individual accountable for the entity’s insurance activities.
DRLP Required: YES
Business entities applying for or holding a Casualty Adjuster license must designate at least one DRLP.
The DRLP must:
- Hold an active Connecticut insurance license (resident or non-resident)
- Hold a license type that corresponds to the business entity’s license
- Be listed in the NIPR application/record for the business entity
There is no limit to the number of DRLPs a business entity may designate.

- Renewal notices are EMAILED about 90 days before the expiration date.

How to Reinstate a License
After a license has been cancelled for two (2) years or more, residents are required to successfully pass the applicable examination prior to submitting a reinstatement application through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).
