Don’t Let Insurance Questions Haunt You This Halloween

CONSUMER NOTICE – October 30, 2026

No Tricks, Just Insurance Guidance and Consumer Resources from the Connecticut Insurance Department (CID)

Insurance can be complicated, whether you're dealing with a claim, shopping for coverage, receiving an unexpected bill, or trying to understand your policy. You don't have to navigate those questions alone. CID's Consumer Affairs team is here to help.

What Can CID Do for You?

CID regulates Connecticut's insurance industry and works to ensure insurance companies follow state laws and treat consumers fairly. Our Consumer Affairs team answers questions, reviews complaints, and helps consumers understand their rights and options.

  • Get answers to questions about your policy, premiums, deductibles, claim decisions, cancellation notices, prior authorizations, shopping for insurance, and other insurance matters.
  • Address concerns involving insurance companies, agents, or adjusters by reviewing complaints, facilitating communication, and seeking additional information when appropriate.
  • Learn about health, auto, homeowners, life, flood, renters, and other types of insurance, including coverage options, consumer protections, appeals, and factors to consider when comparing plans and policies.
  • Verify that an insurance company or insurance professional is licensed in Connecticut before doing business with them.
  • Find resources on severe weather preparedness, flood insurance, home protection, claims and recovery after a disaster, and resilience planning.

When Should You Contact CID?

  • Questions about a denied claim, delayed response, or unexpected bill.
  • A cancellation or nonrenewal notice.
  • Help understanding health insurance coverage or an appeals process.
  • Verification that an insurance company or professional is licensed in Connecticut.
  • Concerns that an insurer may not be following state insurance laws or consumer protections.

CID can review complaints and seek information from insurers but cannot guarantee a particular outcome or require payment for something a policy does not cover.
