Am I eligible for the Artist Fellowship grant?

Connecticut artists from any discipline are eligible! Please note that funds are usually given to people who have a body of recent work that can be presented professionally.

Who should submit an application?

We encourage you to apply for this grant if you are an artist working in any artistic discipline and the primary creator of original works of art who is:

  • 18 years old or older at the time of application.
  • A full-time resident of Connecticut at the time of application and still a Connecticut resident when the award is granted. We verify residency when awarding grants.
  • Able to complete a W9 as an individual with your Social Security Number.

Who is NOT eligible?

  • Incomplete submissions or submissions received after the deadline.
  • Artists who have overdue final reports from any COA grant program.
  • High school students and college/university students enrolled full-time at a degree-granting institution.
  • Connecticut Office of the Arts staff members and people in their immediate family.
  • Nonresident of Connecticut.
  • Recent Artist Fellowship recipients. See below for an outline of the wait period for recent grantees.

Reach out to the program manager if you need to confirm your eligibility before you submit an application.

I received an Artist Fellowship in the past. When can I apply again?

  • Artist Fellowship recipients ($3,000 awardees) must wait five (5) years. For FY25 applicants, you can apply if you received your prior award in fiscal year 2019 or earlier.
  • Artistic Excellence recipients ($5,000 awardees) must wait seven (7) years. For FY25 applicants, you can apply if you received your award in fiscal year 2017 or earlier.
  • Emerging Recognition recipients ($1,000 awardees) can apply and may be considered for Fellowship and Excellence recognition. The Emerging Recognition award cannot be awarded to a recipient who received this award in the past.

Please keep in mind that we review only applications that:

  • Are complete
  • Follow the required format
  • Are submitted on or before Oct 15, 2023

Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from artists who haven’t submitted an overdue final report from any Connecticut Office of the Arts program.
