P.A. 187, Travel – Limited Lines (Individual & Business Entity)
Definition
The Act defines "designated travel retailers" as business entities that arrange or offer travel services and are designated by a duly licensed limited lines insurance producer to offer and disseminate travel insurance to residents of Connecticut on such producer's behalf.

Fees
Initial: $750.00
Reinstatement: $750.00
Renewal: $650.00
Late Renewal: $1,300.00
No pro-rating, non-refundable $100.00 application fee.
Duration
Business Entities: Two (2) years – Expires January 31st every EVEN year.
Individual: Two (2) years – Expires Birth Date every OTHER year.

Apply by going to National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Under Licensing Center, select “Apply for a New License.”
Designated Responsible Licensed Person (DRLP)
Business Entities Only: All states require that business entities or agencies appoint a licensed responsible person to serve as the agency's authority. The Designated Responsible Licensed Person (DRLP) must hold an active Connecticut license, whether resident or non-resident. While the lines of authority between the business entity and the DRLP need not match exactly, the license types must correspond*.
There are no restrictions on the number of DRLPs that can be included on a license.

*The individual serving as the DRLP for the agency must hold at least a P.A. 187, any standard lines, or a Travel limited lines license if the agency holds such a license. A standard lines license includes one or more of the following lines of authority: Property & Casualty, Life, Accident & Health or Sickness, or Personal Lines.
Specifically, an individual cannot hold a P.A. 187 license with only Credit, and/or Crop limited lines of authority if the agency holds a P.A. 187 license.
How to Renew

- Renewal notices are EMAILED about 90 days before the expiration date.
- Apply on the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Under Licensing Center, select “Renew an Existing License.”

How to Reinstate a License
- To reinstate the license for up to one (1) year after expiration date, you will be required to pay a late fee of $650.00, for a total of $1,300.00. Apply by going to National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Under Licensing Center, select “Renew an Existing License.”
- After one (1) year, you will be required to complete the reinstatement application fee with $750.00 fee. Apply by going to National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Under Licensing Center, select “Apply for a New License.”
