Fraternal Agent (Individual ONLY)
Definition
FRATERNAL INSURANCE – Insurance provided by social organizations for their members.
FRATERNAL INSURANCE AGENT – License/appointment to solicit, negotiate or sell Life/AH insurance or annuities on behalf of a Fraternal Society. An appointment by the Fraternal Company is necessary.
FRATERNAL LIFE INSURANCE – Life insurance provided by fraternal orders or societies to their members.
FRATERNAL SOCIETY – A social organization that provides insurance for its members.

Fees
Initial: $130.00
Amendment: $130.00
Reinstatement: $130.00
Renewal: $80.00
No pro-rating, non-refundable $50.00 application fee.
Duration
Two (2) years – Renews December 31st every ODD year.
How to Apply
Residents & Non-Residents:
- No pre-licensing course or exam is mandated for this license type.
- The Fraternal Society must submit the application by going to the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Under Licensing Center, select “Apply for a New License.” Once the license has been issued the Fraternal Company will be able to submit the appointment through NIPR.
NOTICE: If you have recently finished an exam for Life and/or Accident & Health or Sickness Insurance Producer, DO NOT opt for the FRATERNAL AGENT license category. It's important to note that Fraternal Agent and Insurance Producer are different license types. Please allow 1-2 business days for your Producer exam results to be uploaded to the national database.
How to Renew
- Renewal notices are EMAILED about 90 days before the expiration date.
- The Fraternal Society must submit the application by going to National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Under Licensing Center, select “Renew an Existing License.”
NOTICE: If you are already an Insurance Producer license, DO NOT choose the FRATERNAL AGENT license category. Instead, access the "Renew an Existing License" option through NIPR and select the appropriate license type. Refunds are not available.
How to Amend Lines of Authority
The Fraternal Society must submit the application by going to National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Under Licensing Center, select “Add Line of Authority.”
How to Reinstate a License
After December 31st each ODD year, the Fraternal Society must submit the application by going to the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Under Licensing Center, select “Apply for a New License.” Once the license has been issued the Fraternal Company will be able to submit the appointment through NIPR.

Renewal Continuing Education (CE) Requirements (C.G.S 38a-465a(p))
Connecticut does not require CE for any Fraternal Agent.
Cancel License
- To terminate the appointment – the fraternal company would submit through National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).
- To cancel the license – complete the voluntary surrendered form and either email or fax to the Department for processing.
Important Information
Connecticut does not license fraternal business entities.
Only one fraternal license is required, Fraternal Companies will add the appointment by going to National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).
This license type does not require fingerprints.
