DISCOUNT FOR MOTORBOAT OWNERS
With boating season upon us, the Connecticut Insurance Department (CID) wants to inform consumers about a potential discount available to motorboat owners with insurance policies for recreational purposes.
In accordance with CT Gen Stat § 38a-684, if you have an insurance policy for a motorboat used for recreational purposes and the motor exceeds five horsepower, you are eligible for a premium discount. To qualify, you must provide proof of successfully completing a safe boat handling course approved by the Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection.
How to Benefit and Ensure Eligibility:
- Reach out to your insurance provider and inquire about the premium discount for completing a safe boat handling course.
- Submit the necessary documentation or certificate indicating your successful completion of an approved safe boat handling course to your insurer.
- Once your insurer verifies your eligibility, they will apply the rate credit you are entitled to, resulting in potential premium savings.
