Connecticut Insurance Department Names Jane Callanan, Esq. as General Counsel
Connecticut Insurance Department Commissioner Andrew N. Mais has named Jane Callanan, Esq. of Wallingford as the Department’s new General Counsel.
Ms. Callanan has an extensive background in insurance law, including experience as an insurance regulator.
“Jane is a superb addition to our leadership team, with a distinguished record and a strong focus on consumer protection,” Mais said
Prior to taking on her new role, Ms. Callanan was in private practice with Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP as Special Insurance Counsel. There, Ms. Callanan represented InsurTech companies and other insurance licensees providing guidance on insurance sales and business practices, innovative insurance products, and transactional matters.
Prior to that, she held leadership roles with The Hartford initially as a member of The Hartford’s Law Department where she served as a business attorney for various segments and teams within The Hartford’s property and casualty operations. Nine years later, Jane moved to a business role within The Hartford and led the team responsible for overseeing $3 billion of Hartford insured claims handled by third party administrators.
Ms. Callanan’s experience as a regulator began in 1995. She started her career in the insurance industry when she first joined the Connecticut Insurance Department as a Staff Attorney providing legal counsel to the Financial Regulation and Consumer Affairs Divisions.
