Welcome to the Office of the State's Attorney for the Judicial District of Waterbury.

The State's Attorney's office is responsible for the prosecution of all criminal offenses which occur in the Judicial District, which includes the communities of Middlebury, Naugatuck, Prospect, Southbury, Waterbury, Watertown, Wolcott and Woodbury.

The Office of the State's Attorney for the Judicial District of Waterbury office located at Waterbury Superior Court prosecutes the more serious cases, mostly those crimes classified under state law as class A or class B felony offenses, from all communities in the Judicial District. The Geographical Area office, located at the "Part B" Superior Court in Waterbury, primarily prosecutes cases involving crimes classified under state law as class C, class D or class E felony offenses as well as all misdemeanor offenses and infractions, including motor vehicle offenses.

State’s Attorney Maureen Platt was first appointed by the Criminal Justice Commission as the Waterbury State’s Attorney on June 15, 2011. State’s Attorney Platt currently serves as the chief law enforcement officer in the Judicial District of Waterbury, which includes Waterbury and seven surrounding communities. The State’s Attorney oversees employees at the Judicial District courthouse in Waterbury and a Geographical Area court in Waterbury.

State’s Attorney Platt joined the Division of Criminal Justice in 1982 as a prosecutor in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney and served there until 1987. State’s Attorney Platt then joined the private firm Schettino and Temchin from 1987 to 1996 and later returned to the Division of Criminal Justice as a prosecutor at the Bridgeport Judicial District from 1996 to 2000 and at the Middletown Judicial District from 2000 to 2001. In 2001, State’s Attorney Platt was promoted to Senior Assistant State’s Attorney for the Part A Court at the Middlesex Judicial District before her appointment to State’s Attorney in 2011.

State’s Attorney Platt serves as Chair of the Division of Criminal Justice's Operations Committee and as a member of the Ethics Committee and Management Committee, and has served as Chair of the Commission on the Standardization for the Collection of Evidence in Sexual Assault Investigations.

State’s Attorney Platt earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of New Haven and a Juris Doctor Degree from Western New England College School of Law.

In addition to serving the Division and the State of Connecticut for more than 30 years as a prosecutor, State’s Attorney Platt is a member of several esteemed committees and councils, including Chairperson for the Waterbury Interdisciplinary Team.
