Welcome to the Office of the State's Attorney for the Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk.

The Stamford/Norwalk Judicial District serves 8 municipalities with about 380,000 residents located about 30 miles northeast of New York City. It is the most populous Judicial District in the state. The State's Attorney's office is responsible for the prosecution of all criminal offenses which occur in the Judicial District, which includes the communities of Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport and Wilton.

The Office of the State's Attorney for the Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk office, located at Stamford Superior Court, prosecutes the more serious cases, mostly those crimes classified under state law as class A or class B felony offenses, from all communities in the Judicial District.

The Geographical Area office, located at the "Part B" Superior Court in Stamford, primarily prosecute cases involving crimes classified under state law as class C, class D or class E felony offenses as well as all misdemeanor offenses and infractions, including motor vehicle offenses.

State’s Attorney Paul J. Ferencek

Paul J. Ferencek was appointed by the Criminal Justice Commission as the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk effective May 1, 2020.

As State’s Attorney, Ferencek is the chief law enforcement officer in the Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk. The State’s Attorney oversees the prosecutors and other Division of Criminal Justice staff assigned to the Superior Court at Stamford, including the Superior Court for Juvenile Matters for Stamford at Bridgeport, and criminal matters brought to the Housing Session at Stamford.

Attorney Ferencek joined the Division of Criminal Justice in 1988 in the Appellate Bureau at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney. In March 1993, he was assigned to the Geographical Area courts in Derby and Milford before returning to the Appellate Bureau in March 1995. In 1998, he began working in the Geographical Area No. 1 court for the Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk and transferred in 2002 to the Part A court in Stamford where he was promoted to Supervisory Assistant State's Attorney in August 2017. He served as the supervisor of the Part A felony division and juvenile prosecutor until his appointment to State's Attorney in May 2020.  

State's Attorney Ferencek is an adjunct professor at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport and is admitted to the New York, U.S. District Court, U.S. Court of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court bar. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fordham University in New York and Juris Doctor from the Quinnipiac University School of Law.

State's Attorney Ferencek is a guest lecturer for citizen police academies in Greenwich, New Canaan, Stamford and Westport, and teaches constitutional and criminal law, search and seizure and other legal topics at the Police Officer Standards and Training Council. He also has presented at a number of recent seminars on such topics as financial abuse of the elderly and the investigation and prosecution of arson fires.
