Vital statistics

Vital statistics reports

The Office of Vital Records at the Connecticut Department of Public Health maintains statewide registries of vital events (births, fetal deaths, deaths and marriages) which have occurred in CT or to residents of CT. Data collected through the vital records registries are analyzed annually to create statistical reports on the number of events and associated demographic and health information. In Connecticut, these vital statistics reports are known as Registration Reports.

See below for the Annual Registration Reports.

Annual registration reports and methods

Vital Statistics/Registration Reports provide comprehensive statistics related to the number of events by town and county of residence or occurrence, demographics such as age or race/ethnicity, risk factors, health outcomes, and rates and prevalence of select health indicators. These reports provide the official state rates for several key public health indicators, including infant mortality, low birthweight and preterm birth, fertility, and leading causes of death.

The tables “Teen Birth Rates by Connecticut Town YYYY-YYYY” present counts and rates of births to women between the ages of 15-19 for each of Connecticut’s 169 towns aggregated over five-year periods. The tables also include results of statistical testing to compare town-level teen birth rates to Connecticut’s statewide teen birth rate.

Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) released the original version of these tables in the 2011 Registration Report Tables1 and then continued to update it for each five-year period ending in data years 2012-2019 through corresponding releases of annual Registration Report Tables. Starting with the five-year period ending in data year 2020 (2016-2020), DPH is publishing the tables “Teen Birth Rates by Connecticut Town YYYY-YYYY” as a table series separate from annual Registration Report Tables.
