Hospitalization statistics

Access to hospitalization summaries and tables

Hospitalization data on this page reflect discharges from non-federal, short-term acute care hospitals in Connecticut. These numbers represent hospital stays, not individual patients, so a person who is hospitalized more than once may be counted multiple times.

The data come from Connecticut's hospital discharge and billing database, which is maintained by the Connecticut Office of Health Strategy.

The tables and summaries on this page cover the years 2010 through 2021. Data from earlier years can be found on the Vital Statistics Archive page.

Hospitalization summaries and tables

Hospitalization data are used to measure morbidity, which means illness and injury in the population, and to show when a person’s condition was serious enough to require hospital care. The Connecticut Hospitalization Tables include a range of information such as the number of hospitalizations, rates, length of stay, charges, and rankings. The data also include diagnosis codes for both common conditions and conditions of public health importance, such as lead poisoning. These measures are used to track health trends over time and help inform planning, prevention efforts, and the allocation of healthcare resources.
