New Britain Judicial District Information for Crime Victims

If you are the victim of a crime, you will receive one of two letters from our office. The letter you receive will be dictated by whether or not the matter is being prosecuted in the New Britain Judicial District (Part A) or Geographical Area No. 15 (Part B). Each letter will provide you with the contact information for members of our office.
New Britain Judicial District (Part A) Victim Contact Information:
If you are the victim of a crime and the case is being prosecuted by a Part A prosecutor in the New Britain Judicial District you should feel free to contact one of the following individuals or entities depending on certain circumstances which will be indicated in the below sections:
Office of Victim Services:
The Office of Victim Services (OVS) is affiliated with the Judicial Branch of the State of Connecticut. The website for the OVS is https://www.jud.ct.gov/crimevictim/index.html. The website will provide you will helpful information as it pertains to programs and services that the OVS has to offer.
Court-based victim services advocates provide support to victims of violent crimes and their family members during court proceedings and give information on crime victims’ rights and the criminal justice process.
OVS will provide a victim advocate for you if you have been physically injured during the commission of a crime. Heather Major is the Part A Victim Advocate at the New Britain Judicial District. Victim Advocate Major can be reached at 860-515-5113 or via email at heather.major@jud.ct.gov.
The Office of Victim Services at the New Britain Superior Court is located on the first floor at the end of the hallway near the Criminal Clerk’s Office.
Domestic Violence Victim Advocate:
The Domestic Violence Victim Advocates are part of the Prudence Crandall Center Inc. For information pertaining to what services the Prudence Crandall Center Inc. can offer please visit their website at https://prudencecrandall.org/.
Domestic Violence Victim Advocates assist victims of intimate partner and family violence crimes. They provide outreach, advocacy, and support to victims of intimate partner and family violence crimes. They help people understand their legal rights and options, plan for their safety, and connect to services to address immediate and long-term needs. Court advocates provide information and support and work with court personnel to ensure victims’ rights are upheld and voices are heard from the time of arraignment through final disposition of the case, improving outcomes for victims and the prosecution in domestic violence cases.

Inspectors at the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office:
Every Part A case receives an assigned Inspector. We have three Inspectors that are sworn law enforcement officers that work at the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office in the New Britain Judicial District. The letter that you received from our office will indicate who the assigned Inspector is.
You should contact the assigned Inspector if you have any questions or concerns pertaining to the criminal case you or a member of your family are a victim in. The Inspectors will be able to assist you and provide you with an update as to the status of the prosecution of the case.

Connecticut Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (CT SAVIN)
If you are the victim of any crime, you may receive automated updates on the court status of any criminal case by telephone or email through the Connecticut SAVIN system. Please click this link for directions how to register for this automated service:
