Boards and Commissions
The Department of Consumer Protection administers eighteen professional boards, councils and commissions. Each group has regularly scheduled meetings during the year. With the exception of the Liquor Control Commission, the Medical Marijuana Board of Physicians and the Distillate Advisory Board, each is responsible for reviewing, establishing and maintaining the educational training and examination standards which must be demonstrated by each applicant for licensure before a license can be issued by the Department.
Some groups may impose sanctions after a hearing for cause on any licensee that is determined to be in violation of state law. The penalties that may be imposed by boards and commissions include reprimands, suspension or revocation of license and, in some areas, civil penalties and restitution.
