Content editor areas

Content Editor areas in Sitecore provides all the tools you need to edit your page, all in one screen. While there are many areas within the editor, you’ll typically only use a few. This guide outlines the most common and relevant ones.

Data

The Data area contains:

  • Description - The main area for entering and editing page content.
  • Show Editor opens the Rich Text Editor, where you can:
  • Format text (headings, bold, lists, etc.)
  • Insert images and links
  • Switch to HTML view for advanced editing
  • Suggest fix reviews your content and HTML for potential issues. Note: Using this may alter formatting or remove custom code.
  • Edit HTML - Opens the HTML code editor for direct code edits.
  • Teaser - A brief description of the page that shows up on the website under page results
  • Title - The title that appears on the page
  • Image - Inserts an image into the component. You can manage the image with:
    • Browse - This opens the Media Library to locate the image you wish to display
    • Properties - This opens a menu box to modify properties of the image such as the Alt text, image size, and spacing distance around the image
    • Open media library - This opens the media library to view and modify additional properties of the image such as location, title, keywords, etc.
    • Edit image - This opens the Image Editor toolbox where you can resize, flip, or rotate your image
    • Clear - Clears the contents of the field. Important to do before you replace an image.
    • Refresh - N/A

     

    Video CTA or Link area controls how lists and titles display on certain pages:

    • Insert link – Link to another page or folder within your site.
    • Insert media link – Link to a file in the Media Library.
    • Insert external link – Link to a page outside your site.
    • Insert anchor – Link to a section further up or down on the same page.
    • Insert email – Creates an email link.
    • Insert JavaScript – Not allowed.
    • Follow – Not used.
    • Clear – Clears the content of the field. Note: Important to do before replacing a link.

    Note: This area may not appear for all pages.

    Metadata

    Content Editor - Meta Data area

    The Metadata area affects how your page appears in browser tabs and search engines:

    • MetaTitle - The title that displays in the browser or browser tab header and search results
    • MetaDescription - A brief description of the page that displays in search results
    • MetaKeywords - A short list of keywords or phrases, separated by commas, to help guide search engines to the content and rank it more appropriately
    Publishing

    The Publishing area controls whether and when an item appears on the live site.

    • Publish Now – Marks the item to be published immediately when the next publish is run.
    • Clear (next to Publish Now) – Removes the "publish now" status.
    • Unpublish Now – Marks the item to be removed from the live site during the next publish.
    • Clear (next to Unpublish Now) – Cancels the scheduled unpublish.
    • Never Publish – Check this box to ensure the item is never published, regardless of other settings. Can be unchecked if you decide to publish.

    Note: These settings only take effect after a publish action is performed from the Publish tab.
