NOTICE:

Beginning August 4th, the Department of Social Services has partnered with the state’s Community Action Agencies (CAA) to distribute the one-time $300 grocery card to those who have lost their SNAP benefits due to federal work rules eligibility changes. Individuals who have lost their SNAP benefits because of these changes should reach out directly to their local CAA. More information about the changes can be found here. If you need additional food pantry, soup kitchen or mobile food assistance, visit www.211ct.org or www.ctfoodshare.org.

Changes to SNAP and HUSKY Health work rules can be hard to understand. But many people will not lose their benefits. The Department of Social Services has made two prescreeners available - one for SNAP and one for HUSKY - to determine whether these changes apply to you. Energy Assistance - Cold Weather Preparedness Tips

When the weather gets cold, elders especially may develop a reduction in their body temperature more easily, as a result of decreased ability in temperature control and decrease in subcutaneous fat. Excessive drop in body temperature can lead to hypothermia. Elders with chronic illnesses, such as chronic respiratory diseases or asthma, are also vulnerable to disease deterioration in cold weather.
