Lost or stolen benefits cannot be replaced even if they are stolen electronically, due to card cloning or skimming. If SNAP or Summer EBT (S-EBT) benefits are stolen from a lost or stolen card, we can replace the card, but not the benefits. If any benefits are left on your old card, they will automatically transfer to your new card.
There are also security features available on MyDSS to help protect your EBT card!
If your EBT card is lost, stolen or damaged, there are 3 ways you can request a new one:
- Contact EBT customer service 1-888-328-2666
or - Call the CT DSS Benefit Center at 1-855-626-6632
or - Visit any of the local 12 DSS Resource Centers
When you ask for a new EBT card, it deactivates your old card so that no one else can use it.
You will need to select a new PIN for your new EBT card.
We cannot replace benefits that are lost or stolen. However, we may be able to replace food bought with SNAP benefits if you experience a disaster in your home. Disasters include but are not limited to, a fire, flood, or power outage that is at least 4 hours long.
You must report the loss of SNAP benefits within 10 days of the disaster:
- by contacting the DSS Benefit Center at 1-855-626-6632
or - by going to a local DSS Resource Center
or - by providing a hand-written letter or using ‘Request for Replacement of Food Purchased with SNAP Benefits’ form W-1225 / W-1225S.
In order for your benefits to be replaced, you must also show proof of food loss due to the disaster. You can verify your food loss by:
- collateral contact outside of the household
or - ‘Proof of Food Loss’ (W-1226 / W-1226S)
or - provide a letter from the utility company, or documentation from a community
agency including, but not limited to, the fire department or the Red Cross.
If you are approved, we will replace the amount of benefits you lost, up to the limit of one month of benefits.
