The Federal Government has reopened COVIDtests.gov. Every household can order four over-the-counter COVID-19 tests for free. These tests are intended for use throughout the 2024 holiday season to detect currently circulating COVID-19 variants. Please visit COVIDtests.gov for your free test.

 

Before applying for licensure, please familiarize yourself with the general licensing policies.

 

Pursuant to Section 20-213(c), Connecticut General Statutes, any person licensed as an embalmer in another state whose requirements for licensure in such capacity are substantially similar to or higher than those of this state and who is a currently practicing competent practitioner shall be eligible for licensure without examination upon application and payment of a fee of one hundred sixty-five dollars, provided all such applicant shall be required to pass an examination on the Connecticut public health laws and the regulations pertaining to the activities of an embalmer.  No license shall be issued via this route to any applicant against whom professional disciplinary action is pending or who is the subject of an unresolved complaint.

 

Documentation Requirements

 

A completed application form and a fee of $210.00 in the form of a bank check or money order payable to “Treasurer, State of Connecticut”;

 

Successful completion of the Connecticut state laws/regulations examination.  This examination tests the applicant’s knowledge of the Connecticut General Statutes and the Connecticut Public Health Code, as well as Federal Guidelines as they pertain to the funeral industry. Verification of licensure in any state, current or expired, submitted directly to this office by the state licensing authority.  Please select this link for the required form.  Prior to the submission of the form, please contact the state board first as a fee may be required;

 

Current licensure/certification statutes, regulations and policies submitted directly to this office from the state or territory in which currently licensed.

 

Upon receipt of all required documentation, the application will be reviewed at the administrative level, an eligibility determination will be made and the applicant will be notified in writing as to his or her eligibility for waiver of examination.  Please allow four to six weeks for this review.  

 

Applicants who wish to expedite the licensing process may choose to meet the eligibility requirements for obtaining licensure for the first time.

 

If it is determined that the other state's licensing requirements are not equal to those of this state and the applicant wants to pursue licensure, he or she would be required to meet the current Connecticut licensing requirements.
