Public Invited to Informational Meeting Regarding Replacement of Bridge Carrying Bosworth Road over Mashamoquet Brook in Pomfret

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the replacement of Bridge No. 05350 carrying Bosworth Road over Mashamoquet Brook on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

The virtual public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. The meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded. For instructions on accessing the meeting and ways to provide comments and ask questions, please visit https://portal.ct.gov/dotpomfret111-127.

“This project will replace the existing bridge with a new bridge with improved hydraulic performance and addresses the scour critical condition of the existing bridge, improving safety for motorists” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Jeffery Organek. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”

The purpose of the project is to replace the existing 28’-7” long single span bridge with a new 43-foot single span bridge to address the poor condition of the existing bridge substructure due to observed undermining at the scour walls and abutments. The existing substandard bridge rail system will be replaced with one that meets current safety standards. Roadway access will be maintained with a 12-foot-wide temporary bridge utilizing temporary signalization and a one-way, alternating traffic pattern.

There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements, including a partial take, slope easements, temporary construction easements, and a guiderail end anchorage easement.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2027 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permits. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $3.47 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
