How has the State helped develop creative aging instructors?

COA used READI to Age to provide Creative Aging training for teaching artists as they worked with older adults. The programs were funded by a grant awarded through the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) and supported by the E.A. Michelson Philanthropy.

COA conducted a total of three creative aging residencies in senior apartment facilities. Each one trained two teaching artists in vital involvement strategies and using best practices recommended by NASAA and Lifetime Arts.

The program aligned with our READI framework to:

  • Provide quality arts learning to underserved populations
  • Develop teaching artists who are interested in and able to connect with these populations and deliver thoughtful and sequential arts experiences.
