How can I apply for an Artists Respond grant?


The Artists Respond application period has ended.


Apply online using the Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA) e-granting portal.


  • New applicants: Create an account
  • Returning applicants: Log in with the same email and password you used for our current or previous e-granting portal.

What to expect

 

We ask questions about you and your project. We’ll aggregate some answers for reporting purposes. Here are the application questions:


Social Issue & Artistic Merit


  • Applicant name
  • Select the primary social issue your community-based project will address.
  • WHY is this social issue of interest to you and how will you use your work as an artist to address it? (up to 300 words)

Project Details


  1. Title of project (up to 15 words)
  2. What are you proposing? Provide a brief description of your project. (up to 200 words)
  3. Where will your project take place? List CT town(s) and specific locations (if known) and any other location details. (up to 50 words)
  4. When will it occur? Your overall project may begin before or end after the designated funding period, but COA grant funds can ONLY be used during the grant funding period. Enter your start and end dates based on when COA funds will be used.
  5. Who is involved in your project? Identify other artists and project partners and indicate their role and why they were selected.
  6. Budget: Select either $2,500 or $5,000 to support artist fees and project expenses. Artist fees may be for the applicant and/or other artists engaged in the project. Note: This grant may be considered taxable income.
  7. Indicate how the COA funds will be used. (up to 50 words)
  8. How might your project pivot if you are required to make adjustments due to COVID-19 safety measures? (optional - up to 200 word count)

Community & Audience


  1. Who is your community and audience and why did you choose them? (up to 200 words)
  2. Why do you believe your project will be of interest to your community and audience? (up to 200 words)
  3. How do you plan to inform your community and audience about your project through engagement, outreach, marketing communications, etc.? (up to 200 words)

Impact


  • Self-Impact (check all that apply)
  • Impact on Others (check all that apply)
  • Impact: Expand on one or more of the items you have checked above (Self-Impact and Impact on Others).

Artistic Excellence - Work Samples


  • Indicate the artistic disciplines that best define your work as an artist: Dance, Music, Theater, Visual Arts, Multidisciplinary, Performance, Literature, Teaching Artist, Cultural Heritage, Digital Media, Other (up to 4 words)
  • Enter your website (if available)
  • Applicants may provide professional social media sites (optional)
  • Work samples: Include past work samples and/or work samples that provide a sense of the project you are proposing. Applicants may provide any combination of links and uploads with a maximum of 3 links and 5 image/document files. Please note, reviewers will not review beyond 10 minutes of work samples per application. You may share a brief description of the work samples you have included (up to 200 words).
